Project Description


Kathy has been an ESL teacher for over 15 years. She has earned master’s degree in education, English as a Second Language, from university of Alabama at Birmingham. She has worked in variety of classes all with a high majority of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and academic background.

She has experienced teaching kids, adults, students, and business professionals in different settings. She has worked with children of all ages and various nationalities in both online and face-to-face settings. She was an English teacher and mentor at university of Alabama, Birmingham for over three semesters. She taught TOEFL courses at Samford university to undergraduate students planning to enter graduate programs. She was a volunteer teacher at Literacy Council of Central Alabama in Birmingham where She designed and created materials and lesson plans to cater for the needs of adult learners who had basic English proficiency. Kathy has 10 years of experience teaching overseas. She taught English to business professionals in China, Brazil, Taiwan, Japan, and France.


Kathy uses differentiated and engaging lesson plans to cater for the needs of all learners. She tries to adapt her teaching methods to individual’s learning styles. Kathy believed that her instruction should address not only students’ academic needs, but also their socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and gender identity backgrounds. She learned that students’ cultural and individual experience, values and perspectives can influence their learning styles and strategies and how they construct knowledge and learn language. Kathhy used a variety of teaching methods and learning styles to convey the content.
